Great for making lye baths for pretzels
In my quest to recreate a Philly style soft pretzel, I knew I needed a strong alkaline bath... much stronger than what baking soda would give me. I purchased this lye from Amazon and used it with great success. The lye bath gave that great crunchy outside while the inside of the pretzel was still soft and hot. If you're going to make soft pretzels, definitely go this route. Search "lye bath for pretzels" and plenty of great recipes will pop up which include safety instructions since lye can be a dangerous chemical to keep in the kitchen.

It unclogs cloged drains. Nuff sed.
Can't say much here. The recent rubbish that we are stuck with using as "drain openers" hardly work thanks to environmental regulations that have banned lye usage in drain opener products. Just pour half a package of this stuff down a clogged drain and it will melt your problems away. It does what it's supposed to. Couldn't be happier.Word of caution. THIS STUFF IS HIGHLY CORROSIVE TO SKIN SO HANDLE WITH CARE!

It's Lye. It Works. Enough Said.
It came on time, was in a sealed plastic bottle, wrapped in a plastic bag, and shipped in a box. I've used it several times to make soap and it hasn't let me down yet. I like the beads because they pour out easy. I would imagine powder or liquid lye would be much messier.

Great price, even after shipping!
I could have gone down to the hardware store on the corner and bought lye for my soapmaking, but even with the high hazmat shipping cost across the country, it was still cheaper to buy from these guys. The Buy-5 deal took $15 off and made the shipping affordable. The lye is great, dissolves well and doesn't leave caustic pockets in my soap. Fast service, good product.

NaOH for soap making
I was in search of a lye source that was more reasonable in price compared to the usual soapmaking supply companies and I found it! (I have no idea what "food grade NaOH" is used for, though...)Anyway, the microbeads are a great bonus - they dissolve easily and stay dissolved as the solution cools. And as far as soap-making is concerned, this brand works fine. The delievry was as expedient as the service-oriented soap supply companies, too.
