My 9 yr old son and I both suffer with moderate to severe breakouts of eczema, and "Granndma's Lye Soap" has been our "saving grace"! My husband stumbled upon this soap by shear coincidence in a neighberhood store near his job. I tried it, and I must say that I love it! So I searched for it on Amazon.com and found Remwood Products Co. I would recommend it to anyone who suffers w/the symptoms associated w/eczema and acne as well. Not your average 'bath bar'.
Lye soap is rumored to be good for all kinds of complaints, including rosacea, eczema, poison ivy, dandruf, oily skin, oily hair, and even - as the wrapper on this soap suggests - foul mouthed children.I've had my eczema under control for a few years, but not my dandruf. My skin and hair have remained oily no matter what I do - not for lack of trying to control it, mind you. After a move, I started to have a pretty bad outbreak. I remmebered seeing this stuff in a local hardware store, so I thought I'd give it a try.Oily skin? Not anymore. Hair? Nope. Dandruf? Seems under control. Eczema? It's only been a few days, but it's coming back under control.Holy cow, this stuff is good.

Grandma's Miracle Soap!
To begin with let me just say that I was very skeptical the first time I tried this product. I have had acne since I was a teenager well into my adult life, and as a result have tried desperately to find a solution. My co-worker gave me a free sample to try when I'd told her earlier that i'd tried everything to get rid of my acne, and nothing really worked or only gave modest results. Well, she swore to me that this would help, if not cure, my acne and more - so I thought, why not? Simply put, the results were spectacular. My skin has never felt so squeaky clean and clear since childhood, and my ACNE IS GONE. I don't have to wake up every morning and worry about blemishes and unsightly white-heads, I am more confident and feel much better about myself. The soap does not stop there though, since using it I have noticed that my hair is not as oily, my skin is softer and more supple, and I've actually received compliments from people I've known that would never dare say anything to me...

WOAH.
Ok, this is going to be a long one but I want to cover everything. Well, I have only been using this soap for a few days but so far I am totally impressed. I have dealt with skin issues for as long as I can remember and I am one of thse people where nothing seems to work. Or, if it does only for a while. I have combination skin and blemishes most of the time, along with the recent (possible) diagnosis of rosacea. I can get some pretty bad redness and sometimes I get those really deep cystic blemishes OUCH!! I have an event coming up and I had totally broken out and I was desperate.. so I decided to give this a whirl. I figured that being it was all natural it couldn't make anything worse. It has been three days of using this product and my face has really cleared up. No, not completely.. but mostly. I had a few of those deep pimples and those are all but one gone. the rest of my skin is looking very nice as well. I also noticed it has not made things worse before getting better.. it...

Great product
I did not buy this product through Amazon but we have been using it for several years now. I have very dry skin. My husband has Rosacea. All of my children have differing degrees of Psoriasis. All of us use this soap. For one of my sons using this soap allows him to not have to use medications to control his Psoriasis and for me I no longer get flaky skin. The bars are long lasting. Do not expect to get a lot of lather. I always heard lye soap was, well lye and lye is harsh but not so with this soap. I don't know why but this soap is anything but harsh on the skin. We love it and use nothing except this soap. $5.00 seems a lot for a bar of soap but it lasts for months. I strongly recommend this product.

Great for everything
I just saw this soap about a month or so ago at the grocery store and thought I'd try it. I keep it in the kitchen by the sink. It has been so handy. I shave off bits to do the dishes. I wash up with it, even after gardening, and it is wonderful. It also keeps two young active boys clean and that is enough of an endorsement! I have used it to pre-treat laundry, wash counters, scrub pans. I could go on and on (and have) but this soap is just great to have around. I am glad I was curious. I have read it treats acne too!

Poison Ivy? Yep it's true!
When I was a kid my Mamaw sent Papaw to the store to buy a bar of Octagon Soap after I had been out in the woods on their farm all day. She told me to wash any parts that were exposed while I was in the woods and I wouldn't break out in poison ivy, which happened to me every time. Sure enough she was right. The juice from poison ivy adheres to your skin really well and this soap will wash it right off and usually prevent a rash if you don't wait too long to use it (no more than a few hours).

Great Product
This stuff is an all around good product. With many uses. Anything that you could come up with it will work on. You can use it to clean household things, wash dishes, or even treat your acne ridden skin. Its a great product. I remember as a child at my grannies house using this soap to bathe with every night after being out side all day and playing. Its a great product give it a try it won't cost you much, And it almost lasts a lifetime. I have had mine for some time now and only gone through about 1 inch worth of it. You just slice a sliver off and keep going.

It unclogs cloged drains. Nuff sed.
Can't say much here. The recent rubbish that we are stuck with using as "drain openers" hardly work thanks to environmental regulations that have banned lye usage in drain opener products. Just pour half a package of this stuff down a clogged drain and it will melt your problems away. It does what it's supposed to. Couldn't be happier.Word of caution. THIS STUFF IS HIGHLY CORROSIVE TO SKIN SO HANDLE WITH CARE!

For modern lye soaps, the same process is still being used but now they use vegetable oil and a little amount of glycerin is added which soap makers say is one of the main reasons its curative properties. One attraction of lye soap is the simplicity of the additives needed as compared to other commercial soaps that are being made today. Sill, a lot choose lye soap over commercially made soaps or detergents. With that in mind, it is easy to see why many people still buy this type of soap as compared to the more commercial soaps we see today. To this day, there have been many accounts on the usage of lye soap, some of them even on the field of medicine and although for some not scientifically proven, we should take into account that those claims were not just on one account but of... There have also been claims that Lye soap can be used as very good insect repellant.

Even though I love hp soap, I would caution people to learn how to make cold process soap before moving on to hot process. I am now on to making liquid soap, which is a little more difficult, but I love it. Yes you are so right about the need to learn about superfatting in the soap making process. To use the laundry stain stick simply wet the stained clothing and soap then rub the soap directly on to the stain. In fact, I’m beginning to wonder if that’s why my laundry soap and liquid dish soap work so much different now compared to when I was using bar castile. As for hot and cold processed and the beginner…you know that I have only ever made cold processed soap 1 time in my life, true story. There are two ways to make soap cold process and hot process. So, I’ll shred the soap (an aside, it doesn’t work well in the food processor, cheese grater works best), add the washing soda, borax and baking soda and then grind it up in the food processor. Nothing cleans better than old-fashioned lye soap. I use a lard/coconut soap, and then I add borax, washing and baking soda, grind it in an old food processor and get to work. With cold process you skip the “cooking” and simply pour the soap into the molds right after trace. I use the hot process method whereby I “cook” the soap in the crock pot. I learned how to make soap following a recipe for hot processed and that’s all I’ve ever done. Hot processed soaps are ready to go after “cooking” and sitting in the mold for 24 hours. Cold processed soaps must cure for 4-6 weeks prior to use.
