Awesome information
I really didn't know what to expect when I bought this book. It was just something to help me figure out who some of the characters were in the DC universe. What I found was a history of EVERY character DC has ever created! There were some really obscure characters in there dating back to the 1940s that I had never even heard of.If you're into DC comics, it's well worth the price. I know I've had hours of fun reading the different entries on not only the characters I knew but many I didn't.

A nice guide to the DC Characters
Some people may gripe over that their favorite character got only a small entry in the book but I was surprised at how complete this book was.Lets face it, unless DC reprints Who's Who you are not going to get a complete guide to the DC characters, this book is made to represent as many of their characters as they could. I enjoyed the entries about the lesser known characters and being given updates on some of the heros and villians I had followed but lost touch with. The DC Comics Encylopedia makes a nice gift for any comics fan.

Nice Hardcover Collection
Many folks for years have been wanting DC to revisit their Who's Who series from the mid-80's, an A to Z covering of characters. This new hardcover fits that bill in a solid, colorful volume. The wrap around cover by Alex Ross is beautiful and eye-catching.As for the book's interior, it is obvious a lot of effort was put into this. Four main writers handled the text portions, with art taken from hundreds of artists across the decades.Naturally, there will be a few errors that creep into something such as this. I found characters in group shots mislabeled, and the occasional wrong fact in an entry. These things probably should have been caught in final proofing. I can forgive them though as they are few and far between. The one thing that becomes painfully obvious to this long time comic reading fan is that the focus of this tome swings heavy to the post-Crisis universe (understandable as that is what the current continuity is - stuff...

Great Resource
With the DC Universe changing this September, many of the 'old' Ultimate Character Guides to DC characters will be canonically incorrect. Such a circumstance created a need for a guide to the DC Universe not linked to specific issues or story lines. This is what readers will get in this new edition. Gone are references to specific story arcs, replaced by general facts and overviews. In and of itself, this is not a bad thing, and allows new readers to be 'up' on DC Universe inhabitants.I love the cover art taken from DC Comics covers of note, and the interior panels. Close examination of each page will reveal art by giants such as Jack Kirby, Gil Kane, George Perez, Jim Aparo, and Brian Bolland. On the last page, a full listing of all interior artists is included.Like all Ultimate Guides, this is a work that demands close attention. One of the questions I have to ask readers, how do you use your Guides?Tim Lasiuta

Awesome for young boys
My 5-year old son is mad about superheros. When we got this book from the library, he could not put it down. He took it to bed with him last night, and we will often find him "reading it" by himself. If your child has similar propencities, and you want to tempt them to read & love books, you'll likely be delighted with this.

Nice for the casual fan
As a casual fan of the DC universe, I didn't really feel like investing in a massive tome like the encyclopedia. This is a nice book to just thumb through now and then. It gives adequate descriptions of the characters and has a nice selection of artwork. It's definitely a far cry better than the similar Marvel book released in 2010, which omitted a number of major characters and featured duplicate entries for some who took on more than one alias.

Inspiring dedication to comics
Customer Video Review Length:: 1:04 Mins2010 has seen some great comic artists with their art books getting published. There's Alex Ross, Joe Quesada, Adam Hughes and now Jim Lee. What a fantastic year!Jim Lee's Icons is a bargain for the price. It's hardcover with 296 pages of amazing artwork printed on good paper. Just one look at the cover and you can tell that it's really good. Publisher Titan Books has done a very good job with the printing and construction. The amount of work featured is stunning.Right from page 1, it's a non-stop flow of beautiful artwork featuring the superheroes of DC Comics and WildStorm -- Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc. There are sketches, inks, layouts and full coloured illustrations. Many are printed at full page size, some across two pages, showing off all the intricate line work, grain left by the pencil hatches, details in the characters and background. You won't see any work from his days at Marvel though.I...

You just can't ask more from a book
Jim Lee is finally honored with a long time deserved perfect quality art book showcasing all of his work (at least at DC and WS).The reproductions are excellent, same as the paper stock and binding. The design is really well done: you can compare Jim Lee Icons to Alex Ross Mythology and Desperado's The Art Of Brian Bolland and it stands on his own. A beautifull detail is that when you remove the dustjacket you get the same image of cover printed in raw pencils in your hardcover.Nonetheless I have to say there's a catch with the design of the book: a lot of the images are cropped. I guess it was done to let us appreciate the artwork in an even deeper detail, but I think it would have been much better to reproduce said artwork in its entirety. But don't let this disencourage you from getting this book, because all in all it's an excellent product and a real must have for any Jim Lee fan and comic art aficionado in general.

The Mother Lode!
After waiting for what seem to be ages for this book to be released, it appears that the wait was well worth it!Released in line with the Jim Lee collaboration, the DC Universe Online video game, ICONS: Jim Lee displays the progression of a young Jim Lee, at first co-founding Wildstorm Comics and then eventually moving on to working on the ICONS of DC comics (hence the double meaning in the book's title). Included are his labors of love on Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Wildcats, Deathblow, DV8, and a multitude of his lesser known efforts. My reaction: The art is gorgeous! ICONS: Jim Lee contains page after page of colorful artwork, with black and white pencils side-by-side with his accomplished finished work. The printing is outstanding and the book itself is quite sturdy.(Note: due to the book being shipped with a lack of bubble-wrap around the book, I had to exchange my dented copy for a new one; but as usual, Amazon's exchange process was...

Dc Comics

At the London Book Fair, it was announced that DC Entertainment is passing the rights to distribute their books solely to Diamond Book Distributors UK, cutting Titan Book out as a republisher, and selling directly to UK bookstores. Once upon a time, there was a company called Titan Distribution, the leading comic book distributor in the UK. There were also joint companies Titan Books and Titan Magazines. There was an interesting crack the other month, when it emerged that Knockabout Comics was to publish League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Black Dossier by doing the Titan trick, bringing in the book from DC and slapping a sticker on. Titan Books... Titan Books also had a sweet deal with DC Comics, reprinting their trade paperbacks and graphic novels in the UK, and in many cases receiving the books from the States, warehousing them, and putting a UK price sticker on the back.

They also announced the creative pairings for the Batman digital comics: “BATMAN digital, launching in June, will take place outside of DC Comics – The New 52 continuity and feature a series of stand-alone stories by various creators that... All stories are written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray with Wonder Woman art by Amanda Conner and Tony Akins, Batgirl art by Sanford Greene, Duela Dent art by Ted Naifeh, Power Girl art by Mike Bowden and Supergirl art by Santi Casas. “AME-COMI GIRLS, launching in May, is based on the best-selling product line from DC Collectibles that brings the distinct Japanese influence of anime and manga to DC Comics’ female heroines and their foes. The opportunities that digital opens up, it really allows us to go for as wide an audience as possible,” Hank Kanalz, DC’s senior vice president for digital, told USA Today. Update : Via press release, DC has announced more details on the Ame-Comi Girls series. “The Lindelof thing will really appeal to tons of fans who don’t read regular comics, obviously. Initially, there will be five individual character arcs with multiple chapters, leading up to united, Ame-Comi girl series.

ComiXology only give the line “ComiXology readers can continue to access DC Comics that are in their My Comics library. Plus, comiXology on the Kindle Fire syncs libraries from any part of the ComiXology platform, so DC readers can access comics purchased through the web. Or rather Amazon reps say they don’t know, ComiXology says they can’t say and DC Comics doesn’t say anything at all.

Check out TEEN TITANS ANNUAL #1, and follow the story through SUPERBOY #9, LEGION LOST #9, TEEN TITANS #9 and THE RAVAGERS #1. Featuring a story too big for the regular monthly series, TEEN TITANS ANNUAL #1 launches the first set of giant-sized annuals from DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. The story is written by Scott Lobdell (TEEN TITANS, SUPERBOY, RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS) and Tom Defalco (LEGION LOST), with art by TEEN TITANS’ regular illustrator, Brett Booth. "We're both honored that we're being entrusted with the first chapter of a story that is going to give birth to the new RAVAGERS series by Howard Mackie and Ian Churchill, and not only because it is bound to be the most talked about new series of... Coming this May, the expansive crossover story weaves through several ongoing series – including TEEN TITANS, SUPERBOY and LEGION LOST – and pits the heroes against one another in a chamber of horrors far beneath the surface of Antarctica.  We get to see the Teen Titans in pitched battle against the Legion Lost (You can understand why Red Robin is skeptical about a team of teenagers claiming to come from the 30th Century, and why Tyroc is scratching his head over the existence of a...  It has been eight issues since Red Robin threw down the gauntlet to Harvest, and now we're going to see if the Teen Titans have what it takes to shut down N. O. W. H. E. R. E. once and for all.
